Counselling for Children, Adolescents and Teens

Connecting Parents and Children Counselling

Welcome to my website! My name is Carol Alexander, I have a Masters in Counselling Psychology, and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia and a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario, Canada. I offer psychotherapeutic services to adults, families, children, and teens. My work is based primarily on attachment theory meaning I support clients in making sense of their unique attachment histories. Early in life, we develop within the context of relationships; your sense of belonging and how you see yourself in the world depends greatly on your experiences in your family of origin. I support my adult clients in creating and sustaining healthy relationships with their partners, friends, family members and children resulting in a profound impact on their happiness and satisfaction in life.

My focus in supporting families involves strengthening the parent-child relationship, whether adult and child or adult and adult. I coach my clients in a way that provides insight into their family member's inner world while gaining an empathetic understanding of the meaning behind the behaviour. Although I offer individual sessions with children, for parent-child dyads I encourage the involvement of parents in counselling sessions.

Therapeutic services for children and families include play therapy, parent and child play therapy, sand tray therapy, attachment-focused family therapy and attachment-focused EMDR.

Adult services offered include individual counselling for depression, anxiety, stress, parenting difficulties, and the evolution of life's circumstances. I have significant training in supporting both adults and children who have experienced traumatic events.  I utilize cognitive behavioural therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, families and individuals, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, and Mindfulness.

I look forward to connecting with you!
